I've learned that if you have a medical condition, you shouldn't research it on the Web. It's scary and all you will read are people's horror stories.
Has it stopped me from snooping around? Absolutely not. I have to have surgery next week and I looked up my "condition." I surfed right to a picture of said condition and was horrified. THAT THING IS IN ME? Excuse me while I have my first anxiety attack and throw up my breakfast. But seriously, it's just not right.
And I can't help looking. It's the reporter in me. I have a friend who's a police detective and one day I brought him coffee. He was working on a Friday night, waiting for some action. So he asked me if I wanted to see some evidence photos. SURE! So I got to see all sorts of photos and even a video of crime victims. I'm sick. This is a girl who can't even see horror flicks. But it's a morbid curiousity. It's the nosey reporter in me. I'm not a reporter "because I like to write," (I hate when students give that response), I became one because I love to snoop. And it's the perfect excuse.
But my snooping has sufficiently freaked me out more times than I can count. I stupidly asked a friend to send me pictures of a tongue procedure he had done once. When the full size picture downloaded in front of me, I immediately felt ill. But I don't regret it. It was neat! (And very gross.)
I'm going to have to learn that curiousity killed the cat.
But, satisfaction brought him back!
